Foods That Will Freshen Your Breath -- September 7, 2011

We all know eating too much garlic or too many onions can cause bad breath.  But did you know there are foods that can actually help eliminate bad breath?

According to the American Dietetic Association, the following foods will help freshen your mouth and clean your breath:

  • High-fiber foods like apples, carrots, celery and other choices high in fiber actually clean teeth and will remove plaque that causes bad breath and cavities.
  • Tea and citrus fruits work by inhibiting bacterial growth.
  • Yogurt has live cultures which can decrease odor-causing hydrogen sulfide compounds.  Just be sure to choose a brand that doesn't contain sugar, which promotes tooth decay.
  • Fennel and cilantro seeds are proven to help stomp out bad breath.
  • Water.  Be sure to drink plenty of it.  Bad breath often occurs when your mouth gets dry.

Not only will these food freshen your breath, they're great for your health too!
