St. Louis Is Nation's "Cavity Capital" -- August 23, 2011

The city of St. Louis has a new distinction -- but it isn't a good one.  A study published in Men's Health magazine calls St. Louis the "cavity capital" of the United States.

The magazine based this ranking on fluoride levels in the water, the number of dental visits per capita, percentage of people who recently had teeth extracted, usage of dental floss, sales of dental care products and the number of dentists' office in the area.

Men's Health lists these cities as having the worst teeth:

  1. St. Louis
  2. Philadelphia
  3. Newark
  4. Baltimore
  5. New Orleans
  6. Jackson, Mississippi
  7. Jersey City, New Jersey
  8. Milwaukee
  9. Kansas City
  10. Dallas

And in case you're wondering, San Jose, California ranked first among the cities with the best dental health.
