A Sweet Tooth Will Sour Your Diet -- October 30, 2012

If you plan to give treats to the little princesses and super heroes who'll be
knocking on your door this Halloween, you probably already have loads of candy to hand out.

And maybe you think it won't hurt to just eat a couple pieces yourself.  After all, you'll have plenty left.  But before you unwrap another piece of chocolate or licorice, consider how much sugar you're adding to your diet.  Here are a few caloric facts:

  • Three miniature Reese's Peanut Butter Cups have more sugar than a glazed donut.
  • Half a pack of Skittles has more sugar than a scoop of Haagen-Dazs Cookies & Cream Ice Cream
  • Nine Twizzlers have as many calories as a Wendy's Double Stack Burger

Those facts are scary!  Here's something else that might frighten you:  According to "Eat This, Not That" the average American gobbles down 24 pounds of candy every year.  Think about that.  A cocker spaniel weighs
about 24 pounds!  So unless you're very diligent with your exercise regimen, all that extra sugar could have you packing on a few extra pounds -- not to mention what all that sugary stuff does to your teeth!!!  If you don't want that to happen, give away ALL your candy to the trick-or-treaters and next year, buy candy you don't even like!
